Tip From The Bench

Do you have troublesome speaker jacks on either your receiver or speakers that make connecting speaker wires difficult — wires fray or detach easily. If so, consider adding spade connectors, banana plugs, or banana pins to your set up to improve connections, and in some cases even protect receiver/amplifier from damage. We carry various connectors in our shop, or you can order from Amazon at the associated links. Some product links are affiliate links which means if you buy something we’ll receive a small commission.

If your connectors are screw down, gold spade connectors like these can handle both bare wire ends or banana plugs to securely attach speaker wire to your receiver/amplifier and speakers.

Spring terminals like those pictured below can accommodate pin connectors, while screw down terminals with existing center holes can accommodate banana plug connectors.

Side tip: If you choose a banana plug or pin connector with an aluminum/metal sleeve vs. a PVC sleeve, we like to wrap them with electrical tape to prevent the positive and negative sides from accidentally contacting each other and shorting out a powered-on receiver/amplifier.
